Democracy
Democracy is more than votingDemocracy is more than voting. It depends on institutions, laws, constitutional limits, independent courts, a free press, fair elections, checks and balances, and traditions that prevent political power from becoming unlimited. Many of those protections are easy to take for granted until they begin to weaken.
This section examines how democracy works, how power is exercised, and what happens when democratic safeguards come under pressure. We look at government institutions, elections, constitutional questions, the rule of law, democratic norms, threats to democratic stability, and lessons from history—not simply to identify problems, but to understand why these protections matter.
